2012. It's the last day of the year and what a year indeed! 2012 truly was a roller coaster of a ride! January rolled by without a hitch while Febuary marked a big turning point for me; barbie blonde hair and days later I officially had purple hair - never have I felt more myself (ironic yes, is it strange to say having purple hair seems natural for me and my personality?). March marked my second trip over to New York City (every day I'm not there, my heart aches to be back), come May and it's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia in full swing.
June saw the Born This Way Ball roll into town and I was grateful enough to attend and see one of my favourite idols' Lady Gaga perform. While August was a tad uneventful, I did write up a cool 'Guide to Pastel Hair' for anyone curious about how to rock the trend.
Hello September, which meant invitations to New Zealand Fashion Week piling up in my inbox, the second consecutive year as a VIP guest meaning I was beginning to feel like a NZFW regular. Definitely one of my favourite times of the year, when I got to hang out with my dear mates the boys of Foureyes and Stolen Girlfriends Club, made a few more friends including super cute Olivia Lopez of Lust for Life. This also spawned a super sweet three part mini editorial series between Foureyes + Little Black Book (my favourite shoot was this one!).
November brought über talented songstress Chelsea Wolfe for a one night only gig in Sydney which I only found out about a couple hours before the gig, however thankfully Ms Wolfe kindly put me down on the guestlist so I was able to see her gig. And after her set she took her time out to chat to me as well as take a couple happy snaps (happy fan girl!).
Finally December saw me featured alongside fellow bloggers Chronicles of Her and The Topknotter in the new Cynics campaign, have a near tragic incident with my dog (thank goddess she's okay, truly a Christmas miracle!) and marks 8 months of me being vegetarian.
2012 has proved to be a time for new beginnings and changes for Little Black Book not only in technicality (design, navigation and aesthetic) and physicality (the year I got purple hair) but also through my strong desire to produce higher quality posts, editorials and shoot more personal style - which I think I've succeeded to do. You can check out what I wore in 2012 here. Not only that but I also launched my own shop where you can shop my wardrobe - most pieces in fact are never worn or worn once with a mix of designer and vintage pieces.
I hope you've enjoyed my blog's metamorphosis, thank you so much for all your support and readership. Bring on 2013!
I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas, Festivus, Yule, Hanukkah (etc) spent with friends and family as I did and as such, I've had the pleasure of having a slight break on the blog - but have no fear; I'm back baby. I wanted to share with you some lovely gifts I received over Christmas - some were gifted from my family and some were given to me by myself. Like many of you already know, I'm currenting coveting anything baroque - so naturally sought out an alternative to the stunning Dolce & Gabbana baroque sunglasses: with the result being an amazing collaboration with Kawaii Kitsch. Stay tuned for details.
1/ Mirrors are an excuse to Instagram - reppin' my new Porcelain Black bag 2/ No need for an excuse to buy peonies 3/ New Jeffrey Campbell heels
4/ Xmas sale at my store! Shop my wardrobe here (use 'secretsanta' for 20% off!) 5/ Wharfside calm - wearing Zara jacket (similar) 6/ Amazing new Lauren Carney Day of the Dead print that I've fallen in love with (watch this space) 7/ Wearing new Stolen Girlfriends Club Tulip Dress 8/ UTS Fashion 'The Future of Fashion' graduate show standouts: Kathleen Choo, Jeni Kartono 9/ Been utterly obsessed with watching NY Ink. Two of my favourite things: New York City and Tattooing! (It doesn't help that the crew are mad talented, crazy pranksters and are easy on the eyes!)
It finally happened. I got round to buying Lady Gaga's debut fragrance FAME and boy does it smell delicious! A mix of pulverised apricot, crushed heart of tiger orchidea and tears of belladonna - this unicorn has the FAME. It's just so good! It's a cool rich black fluid which sprays on clear and smells so sweet you wanna die with happiness. Plus the bottle is so cool, the cap doubles as a cradle for the perfume bottle if you wish it to be - definitely don't regret buying it.
I also picked up this super sweet freshwater pearl and mini scallop shell necklace from a little random boutique for a sweet $60 - I'm a HUGE lover of pearls, I have so many different types of pearl necklaces and I love piling them on with each other. And who couldn't resist buying these cute flower jewel earrings? Finally debuting my favourite new ring: a super cute unicorn ring which I found on Etsy handcraft by Miss Linda Smyth of FLEATHERS & RABID FOX Jewellery - it's by far my favourite kind of unicorn ring and trust me, I've scoured every corner of the interwebs looking for the perfect unicorn ring: this is it.
Sorry about the brief mini hiatus, honest to god I couldn't find my camera cable and thus couldn't upload anything till finally thank god I found it today. Heaps more exciting outfit posts to come!
Auckland - its been one year since I last was here yet my love affair with you hasn't changed. When I was asked to come back to New Zealand Fashion Week, I admit I couldn't have been more delighted. Not only is the country stunningly beautiful, the insanity that ensures during Fashion Week (think Stolen Girlfriends Club) rivals that of Aussie bad boys from Ksubi is not to be missed. I'M HERE AND I'M READY!
Only hours earlier, I was welcomed to the serene Sofitel Hotel which overlooks the Viaduct Harbour, conveniently close to the venue where fashion week is held. While it is a bit overcast and gloomy here in Auckland I'm in good spirits - the lovely staff from Sofitel even greeted me with delicious sweet treats! But time is of the essence, I have to go get ready for tonight's official NZFW opening night party.
For instant NZFW updates be sure to follow me on Twitter, Facebook and/or Instagram! Hope you all are as excited I am as to be back in this beautiful city and for all fashion week related craziness!
Today I spent the day shooting some outfit shots, some of which have been my favourite looks to shoot to date! Purple runs in my veins and the weather in Sydney thankfully was the perfect amount of wind and sunshine. I had the pleasure of shooting in a mini field of beautiful lavender bushes, gorgeous lattice gates and Magnolia trees - Spring might be closer then we think! So many outfit posts to come! I can't wait to share the post with you soon! I've also got a special little collaboration with my friends at We Are Handsome coming up, so stay tuned for that.
Apologies for the sporadic blogging lately, my plate has been full for sometime now: juggling my job, organising and sourcing for shoots, maintaining my blog and my personal life dramatics. And it seems lately I've been going on a online shopping spree... feeling a need (okay yes I know, more a want) to update my wardrobe perhaps subconsciously in preparation for Fashion Week [NZFW and possibly NYFW] (perhaps also in compensation for the lack of blogging?) and a need for more warmer additions since I usually just throw on some summer clothes with a jacket and scarf. But I've added splashes of colour into my wardrobe - a few pink pieces here and there, some warmer jumpers and jackets and of course more bloody accessories (and having seen the lovely Natalia Kills wearing Chris Habana crystal prism earrings too many times and looking HAWT, I craved and bought a pair myself today). Many who have travelled with me always find it amusing that I carry a box filled with jewellery which has in the past weighed nearly at 1kg and has been the subject of speculation by Aussie Customs as well as TSA (much to my amusement). With new goodies means HEAPS more outfit posts which I can tell you all want to see! I promise I shall do more outfit posts more frequently!
1. UNIF Chelsea Shearling Coat (cos I needed an actual winter appropriate outerwear piece and because it looks badass and so comfy! 2. Nikki Lipstick My Metal Pony Jumper (self explainatory) 3. Mossman lilac skirt (um on sale for $63!!)
Lady Gaga Born This Wall Ball Sydney, last Wednesday - the opening night show in Sydney. WOW. What can I even say about this magical invasion by G.O.A.T (that's Government Operated Alien Territory) led by Mother Monster? The stage itself was a huge castle stage, which had so many trap doors and compartments. Gaga came on stage performing Highway Unicorn naturally riding a badass unicorn with her G.O.A.T troops behind her.
Just like her previous Monster Ball (which had a quirky, alice in wonderland though very gaga storyline), the Born This Way Ball similarly was a concert perfomance with a narrative - Mother G.O.A.T basically initiates "Operation: Kill the Bitch" where she sends troops to capture the 'space renegade Lady Gaga, who is trying to birth a new race. The storyline only really continues during each interlude, where the Manifesto of Mother Monster (start of Born This Way song) begins: "This is the Manifesto of Mother Monster: On G.O.A.T, a Government Owned Alien Territory in space, a birth of magnificent and magical proportions took place. But the birth was not finite; it was infinite. As the wombs numbered, and the mitosis of the future began, it was perceived that this infamous moment in life is not temporal; it is eternal. And thus began the beginning of the new race: a race within the race of humanity." Finally the beginning of Paparazzi, Mother G.O.A.T mimes the words to Paparazzi though soon after Lady Gaga grabs her disco stick and kills Mother G.O.A.T screaming "she had to die".
I admit, as soon as Mother Monster came on the stage I had tears in my eyes - the whole stadium was so emotionally charged with love. It was 3 hours of non stop heavy metal electric pop magic! Not only did she perform, she also had many amazing (and funny) moments where she interacted with her fans - I loved right after her rendition of Hair and right before Bad Kids, little monsters were throwing phones and wallets at Gaga in attempts to go backstage.
Well I hope you enjoy my photos below (they are all mine, I snuck in my new compact camera hehe) while all the videos I found via youtube for your convenience. DON'T BE A DRAG JUST BE A QUEEN
I wore a Elizabeth&James bustier dress with Bec&Bridge Felix jacket, fishnet stockings and Jeffrey Campbell Perfect Spike heels as well as my Gaga's Workshop x A-morir fingerless gloves
Bad Romance
Heavy Metal Lover
Gaga reading a cute note from a little monster
Electric Chapel
Alejandro
Listening to this beyond beautiful guitar playing before Americano was magical - it sent shivers up my spine!
Skip to 4:44 if you want to hear her start singing Hair (amazing acoustic version!!!)
I ended up buying this cool 'Ride ride pony ride ride' tee from the BTWBall Merchandise Shop, I mean IT HAS A MOTHER FUCKING UNICORN! :) as well as a cool set of pearls and the BTWBall booklet. Being able to experience Gaga's concert truly is amazing - being in a room where there is no hate or discrimination only love, where anyone can be who they want to be and be as free as their hair is undescribable. Then add Mother Monster performing and you have entered heaven! Paws up fellow monster unicorns! What was your favourite performance at the BTWBall? I definitely loved Electric Chapel, Alejandro and Hair (oh and of course Bad Romance).
Since starting my new job a few weeks ago I've been hectically juggling the new job, woes of my Asus laptop spontaneously dying and being difficult - ultimately resulting in me finally throwing in the towel and agreeing to go Mac; I've been missing my dear old blog and my lovely readers. Its been a while since I last posted, I'm embarrassed to admit that I may or may not still have some last few MBFWA New Generation shows to put up and don't worry they will be coming up on the blog because they truly are so inspiring and exciting to see and support! Like I said, my PC laptop was being annoying so I am actuallly typing this post from my new Macbook Air!?! Like WTF right? Not only is it like a little journey down memory lane having grown up with Macs before they were 'cool' (and back when they were known as Macintosh) but I'm like a giddy kid on Christmas day and have spent the last day tweeking, playing and prodding with my new Air getting used to switching from PC to Mac. Along with the new laptop, the new job and a few upcoming shoots in the works with some amazing creative people, I also will be announcing my latest blog giveaway in the next couple of days in celebration of Little Black Book turning 4 this coming week. Let me tell you - IT IS AN INSANELY HUGE GIFT PACK so stay tuned!
I have also changed my Instagram name to @lil_blackbook to be in sync with my twitter handle (of the same name). Thought I should show you guys what my week has been like via Instagram, enjoy!
