REEBONZ Sydney Sale @ The Hilton

Last Thursday I had the pleasure of experiencing one of the famous (which comes around a couple times a year) Reebonz.com designer sales and boy was it insane! Held at the Hilton Sydney, I arrived around midday at the peak of the chaos. Fashionistas were scrambling to get their hands on their favourite designer handbag or wallet and there was even vintage Chanel jewellery! First walking into the room jam packed with people scrambling for pieces was a bit daunting - think boxing day sales (or black friday sales for my american readers) and that's what it was like. This was a physical sale event held by Reebonz but basically they have flash sales every day on their website. 

A quick rundown on Reebonz - Reebonz.com is an "private sales members only shopping club that gives you access to designer fashion and luxury travel and lifestyle experiences at amazing deals" and the only way to access the amazing daily designer deals is to sign up. 

So having stepped into the room and seeing PS1 and Chloe paraty handbags on sale as well as a good small pile of vintage Chanel handbags, it took me a while to really compose myself and remain calm. Seeing as I had just splurged last week on a pair of Miu Miu glitter wedge heels and Miu Miu Noir sunglasses, I was in no condition to buy another handbag, no matter how enticing they were. Nonetheless there was no harm in looking right? So I compensated by snapping pretty pictures, occassionally modelling and holding a bag I loved and admired all the avid shoppers at the sale event.

Martin Grant still calls Australia home

QANTAS for me has always been an airline in the forefront of linking airtravel with fashion and glamour. I mean take a look at the Qantas Spirit Of Youth Awards 365 which has been the leading grants program for emerging creative talent for over seven years and in the past have collaborated with Willow and Jayson Brunsdon (to name a few) to create fashion forward yet functional outfits for the Qantas Formula 1 Grand Prix grid girls. So when QANTAS CEO Alan Joyce made the exciting announcement that Australia's own Martin Grant is the newly appointed head designer in charge for the reinvention of Qantas cabin uniforms - I was pretty stoked! I mean what a brilliant pick! Melbourne born Martin Grant now based in Paris with his own atelier is sadly relatively unknown back home in Australia which is unfortunate as he has over 30 years of experience under his wing and is known on a global scale being stocked at Barney's and Takashimaya. Known for his bespoke tailoring, which no doubt he acquired his skills from his time with Koji Tatsuno - Martin Grant creates timeless silhouettes, a mix of French charm and elegance in an almost sculptural way and this will certainly be reflected in his reinvention of the Qantas cabin uniforms. 






Speaking candidly with Qantas' marketing director prior to the conference, I was told there was a strong desire to bring back glamour to modern air travel and in a sense Qantas is well on their way to achieving this goal. In a day and age where jet setting across the globe has definitely become more accessible Qantas is perhaps one of the first airlines who have seen the need to bring glamour back to the whole air travel experience - from the dining experience (all in flight menus are overseen by Australian chef Neil Perry of 'two hat' restaurant Rockpool ) to cabin service and customer service. 

Just looking back at some of these archival images (courtesy of Qantas) it really evokes nostaglia for me for the amazing military inspired uniforms of the past.  Martin mentioned at the press conference that he will be looking back into the archives for inspiration - so fingers crossed he emphasises the military inspired look with his distinct tailored elegance synonomous with his design aesthetic.

No doubt perhaps one of the challenges Martin Grant will face will be to design the uniforms in a way so that they effectively reflect who we are as a nation - all the while can be worn by a wide range of men and women with different religious backgrounds, have to be suitable for all climates, of course be comfortable and fashionable while still retaining his own aesthetic. 

Below are a look at Martin Grant's SS12 collection shown at Paris Fashion Week, which hopefully can provide a little bit of insight to what we might see in 2014 when the big unveil will be announced.

LITTLE BLACK BOOK for Witchery 2012 White Shirt Campaign

Witchery is proud to announce the launch of the 2012 White Shirt Campaign which kicks off tomorrow (April 19th, one month before the offical White Shirt Day!) and Little Black Book is proud to support Witchery White Shirt Day. Embodying Witchery’s campaign philosophy of life changing fashion, fashion changing lives, the aim of the initiative is to raise vital funds and awareness for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF).

It might be frightening to realised but in Australia, one woman dies every 10 hours from Ovarian Cancer.  With diagnosis usually in the late stages of the disease, the chance for survival is low.  The funds raised from the 2012 White Shirt Campaign will assist the OCRF in their research endeavours to find an early detection test to fight this insidious disease and change this devastating statistic.

The Witchery OCRF White Shirt Campaign is an iconic annual charity initiative, with 100% of gross proceeds from the sale of the white shirts and $5 from every silver gift sold going directly to the OCRF.
This year, Witchery has created eight shirts for women and two shirts for men. The collection reflects Witchery’s smart, simple design philosophy with a fashion twist.



The womenswear range features an elegantly structured tux shirt, a relaxed tailored boyfriend shirt, and a detailed broderie blouse. The menswear range features a classic white shirt with a fine self stripe and an everyday v-neck tee. Supporting the white shirt collection, Witchery has produced a silver gift collection for men and women encompassing a silver jewellery for women and a silver bow tie and tie for men.

On OCRF White Shirt Day - Saturday 19 May, 2012, Australians will be urged to unite and wear a white shirt to position the spotlight on this dreadful disease and show support to all. 

“Witchery is very proud of the fundraising efforts of our customers and campaign supporters, and the profits raised by this year’s White Shirt Campaign will help OCRF to continue to make advances in their medical research.”

To date, Witchery have raised over $3 million to date for OCRF. Just to reliterate 100% of proceeds from the sale of Witchery White Shirts in the lead up to White Shirt Day go towards the fight against Ovarian cancer. Yeah that's right - 100% of proceeds. That's pretty unreal! Go Witchery!

VINTAGE FASHION EMPORIUM: Welcome to the New World AW12 Lookbook

Many of you might remember a couple months ago I wrote about Sydney's newest fashion hub specialising in vintage fashion, arts and collectibles known as the Vintage Fashion Emporium. Well as many of you might remember, I was lucky enough to be present while an amazing team shot an exclusive editorial for VFE, well here is the full editorial Autumn/Winter 12 lookbook which I've titled "Welcome to the New World".
Everything in the shoot is sourced from the 11 collective stores in the Vintage Fashion Emporium - amazing pieces from Mexican sombreros to an elephant foot chair, stunning taxidermy animals to an incredibly aged bicorne hat to name a few. The Vintage Fashion Emporium truly is a stylists' dream - incredible place for sourcing and an incredible secret most Sydney siders want to keep hidden!
 
Hope you enjoy the lookbook as much as I did being on set, seeing the team pull this off and really embracing the history and culture embedded in each piece found in the Vintage Fashion Emporium. I was blown away and I hope you will be too!

 

And just finally with the recent launch of a monthly Vintage Fashion Bazaar, held on the first Saturday of every month, you can enjoy high tea, complimentary styling services, vintage-flavoured music and additional stallholders too. EXCLUSIVE LOOK: Vintage Fashion Emporium @ Sydney Antique Centre

Last Wednesday Little Black Book was given exclusive access to go on set of the prelaunch magazine shoot of Sydney newest Vintage Fashion Emporium located at the Sydney Antique Centre - the Vintage Fashion Emporium is literally a huge ground floor with hundreds of stores selling vintage clothing, accessories for both men and women dating from the 1900's-1980's as well as home accessories, furniture and more.

Not only is it a pleasure to have access to such a vast quantity of vintage clothing spanning the last decade in one huge space, the quality and price points are incredible! I'm also a huge fan of antique homewares and I was not disappointed! This place was filled with antique brick-a-brac, furniture, I even saw on first glance a sick looking rocking horse only to discover it was actually a 'walking' horse - you pedal and the horse walks, with you on it!

FIRST LOOK KARL by Karl Lagerfeld for NET-A-PORTER

News of the drop of the debut collection of KARL by Karl Lagerfeld exclusively for NET-A-PORTER both online and in various fashion hotspots around the globe has been at a feverpitch on Twitter with the 'Karl Kult' in full swing. Prices for the collection start at around $50 for a canvas bag and go up to around $1500 for a leather jacket, with signature Karl sunglasses, collars and fingerless gloves in the collection. Expect to see mostly black and white pieces, heaps of leather, sequins and impeccable tailoring with a splash of pink, chic Karl approved sneakers, amazing accessories and heels.
I'm coveting the envelope clutch, chic collars, leather - heck you guys know my style by now, 99% of my wardrobe is black so I'm dying for this collection!!

WORLD DOMINATION - MinkPink goes global!

 

Last Friday I had the pleasure of attending a blogger only event to celebrate the launch of MinkPink's first global campaign launch with a delicious tea party. Imagine a long table, which took up 80% of the room topped with lollies, scones, sandwiches and cupcakes which would make the Mad Hatter just a little mid more mad and add some of Australia's best known fashion bloggers in there and you got yourself a killer tea party!

In celebrating of the first ever global campaign launch, MinkPink have made this incredibly cute and chic video. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Yay for Aussie domination! Well done MinkPink!! Little Black Book loves you!!

 

 

 

LITTLE BLACK BOOK GOLDEN GLOBE 2012 FASHION TOP 5

1. Rooney Mara breakout star from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo wore a Nina Ricci dress from the Pre Fall collection and was by far my favourite look from the Golden Globes! Keeping in sync with her in character style as well as seemingly her own, Rooney has mastered the modern goth look. Though this red carpet look is without a doubt elegant and breathtaking!




2. Mila Kunis looking ever so elegant in Dior (who she is now the new face of!) gets our star of approval with a beautiful dress like that you don't need to over accessorize and Kunis really hit the mark! With a cinched in waist, elegant diamond drop earrings and a ring, Kunis shines.



3. Kate Winslet shows how a Hollywood starlet dresses for a red carpet event wearing Jenny Packham gown, Roger Vivier shoes, and Fred Leighton jewels looking very Old Hollywood and ever so glamorous.

4. Emma Stone looked amazing in a floor length tulle gown by fashion house Lanvin. Perfectly cinched in at the waist with a embellished belt - I love everything about this look. Very elegant, very ancient roman/greek style sihoulettes and the cap sleeve adds a bit of structure as well as modernity to the whole look.

 

5. Shailene Woodley hits the red carpet in a beautiful strapless Marchesca floor length gown perfectly highlighting her sihoulette and figure. I do think Shailene should have add some accessories to finish the look - maybe some nice long earrings or a chunky bracelet (or even a embellished clutch!)

ASOS AUSTRALIA AUTUMN WINTER 2011 PREVIEW

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending the media only ASOS Autumn Winter 2011 collection preview which will drop in the recently launched ASOS AUSTRALIA online store in late December through to early February. One of the first to arrive at the showroom, as soon as I walked in I was awestruck at the huge range about to hit Aussie shores: ASOS Black, ASOS Revive, Asos Swimwear, ASOS Candy Box as well as Asos Accessories.
A big winner for me are the incredibly cute party dresses, incredible rangle of vintage in the Asos Revive range (all affordable ranging from $20-$200) and the insane accessories: pony hair bags, spike jewellery and amazing shoes. Cannot wait for the whole collections to drop online and become available! It was also a pleasure meeting Sarah Westwood the general site manager of Asos Australia!
